Personalization Fields allow you to personalize Blasts for your Audience Members by including information from their Subscriber Profile or available Attributes, such as first name, last name, email address, hire date, work location, and more in a Blast's subject line or text elements. This feature is great for messaging based on location, reporting manager, job title, level, or any custom field available.

You can add up to 20 unique Personalization Fields to your Blast. To do this, open Blast Editor and follow the steps below.

Adding Personalization Fields in a Text Element:

  1. Add a Text Element into your Blast or click on a current Text Element to edit it.

  2. Inside of the Text Element, click the personalization icon (located in the first row of the tool bar).

  3. Select the Personalization Field you would like to include: First Name, Full Name, Email Address, gender, birth date, etc.

  4. Once selected, it will be placed into the Text Element where your cursor was.

Adding Personalization Fields in the Subject Line:

  1. Open the Sending Info section of your Blast.

  2. Click the personalization icon (located to the right of the Subject Line field).

  3. Select the Personalization Field you would like to include: First Name, Full Name, Email Address, hire date, work location, etc.

  4. Once selected, it will be placed into the Subject Line where your cursor was.

If you have Audience members with missing data for any of the Personalization Fields you are using, you will be given a warning prior to sending indicating that you have Audience members with missing data and providing those details.

From here, you can choose to Proceed and send your Blast, or you can use the provided information to make some changes and ensure that everyone receives their personalized communication:

  • If the Audience members are part of a Manual Segment, you can upload the data for those individuals, or make a segment without them included.

  • If the Audience members are part of a Dynamic Segment , you can add “is not blank” as a qualifier the missing field attributes to make sure everyone in the email has data for it.

  • Always set Fallback Personalization Fields for Audience Members for whom data is not available. There are two places where you can set fallback fields:

    • Blast Controls: Go to Blast > Controls > open the Personalization Fields section.

    • Blast Editor: Only Email Address, First Name, and Full Name can be edited here inside the Blast Editor, click on the three vertical dots to the right of Exit > click Email Settings. of course - always ensure fallbacks are set

PLEASE NOTE: Only Attributes that are enabled in Settings > Attributes will appear as available for Personalization Fields. To learn more about enabling and disabling Attributes for Blast Personalization, check out this article.
