How to Update a Manual Segment

Update Segment, Add, Remove, Manual Segment, Audience, Subscribers

It is important to keep your Segments up to date to make sure that the correct Subscribers are receiving your emails. Unlike Dynamic Segments, which automatically update based on rules, Manual Segments are managed by your team manually via the Audience Table or Lists.

Below, you can see how to add a group of Subscribers to a Manual Segment, how to add a single Subscriber to a Manual Segment, and how to Remove Subscribers from a Manual Segment.

Add Subscribers From a List

To add a list or a group of new Subscribers to an already existing Manual Segment, there are several methods.

From Segments Table

  1. Go to Audience > Segments.

  2. Search for the Segment you want to update.

  3. Click the Segment name, then click the Edit Segment button, or click the ⋮Ellipsis menu icon next to the Segment name, then Edit.

  4. Upload your list file. For more information about the upload process, please review: Creating a Manual Segment.

From Audience

  1. Go to Audience.

  2. Click Import List on the left panel.

  3. Upload your list File.

  4. On Step 2, select the Manual Segments you want to upload the .CSV list to.

  5. Complete Upload process. For more information about the upload process, please review: Creating a Manual Segment.


Add a Single Subscriber

You can add an individual subscriber from their Profile Edit window. To do this:

  1. Go to Audience > Subscribers.

  2. Search or filter for the Subscriber you want to add to a Segment.

  3. Click on the Subscriber's name or click the ⋮Ellipsis menu icon, then Edit.

  4. Scroll down to Segments.

  5. Type in the Manual Segment's name that you would like to add the Subscriber to and select it from the drop-down list to confirm.


Add Multiple Subscribers

If you have multiple Audience Members you want to add to a Segment from your Audience Table, you can use Audience Bulk Actions.

To do this:

  1. Go to Audience > Subscribers.

  2. Search or filter for the Subscriber(s) you want to add to the Segment.

  3. Check the box to the left of the Subscriber names you want to add. This will present the available Bulk actions at the top of the Audience Table.

  4. Click Update Segments.

  5. Click Add to Segments.

  6. Type to search in the Manual Segment you would like to add the Subscriber(s) to and select it from the drop-down list.

  7. Click Submit.


Remove a Single Subscriber

  1. Go to Audience > Subscribers.

  2. Search for the Subscriber’s name or email address. For help with Search please review this article: Searching for a Subscriber.

  3. Click the Subscriber's name or click the ⋮Ellipsis menu icon, then Edit.

  4. Scroll down to Manual Segments, then click the X next to the Manual Segment you would like to remove the user from.


Remove Multiple Subscribers

  1. Go to Audience > Subscribers.

  2. Click +Filter to filter by the Segment you would like to remove Subscribers from. For help with Filters please review this article: How to Filter Your Audience.

  3. Check the box to the left of the Subscriber names you want to remove. This will present the available Bulk actions at the top of the Audience Table.

  4. Click Update Segments.

  5. Click Remove from Segments.

  6. Check the box to the left of the Segment you want to remove.

  7. Click Submit.


Remove From the Segment Editor

  1. Go to Audience > Segments.

  2. Search for the Manual Segment’s name under the relevant permissions.

  3. Click the Segment name, then click the Edit Segment button, or click the ⋮Ellipsis menu icon next to the Segment name, then Edit.

  4. The Results list on the right-side lists all Subscribers currently in the Segment.

  5. Search for the Subscriber's name or email address.

  6. Click the Remove button.

  7. Confirm by clicking Yes. This will be saved immediately.
