Email addresses in your Audience > Bounced list are addresses that did not receive the email that was sent to them, and provided a Bounce reason which may cause harm to your sender reputation when trying to send new emails. We will not try to send further email to these Audience members.

Common reasons for Bounces include:

  • The email address does not exist (anymore)

  • The mailbox is full

  • The email server is experiencing a temporary outage of service

  • The server or receiver has blocked emails from the sender.

Bounce Reasons

Bounces occur from the recipient email server or mailbox, and provide a Bounce Reason for the failure to deliver. Bounce Reasons are generally universal across email services, but may refer to specific reason codes from the email server itself.

To find more information about the Bounce Reason, we recommend searching the reason code we provide in the Bounced list.

To learn more about the Audience > Bounced Table page, including actions like clearing a Bounce, please review: Bounced Overview.

Bounces in Blast Insights

When a Bounce reason will not result in harm to your sender reputation, these email addresses are kept as Subscribers, but may continue to bounce.

These Bounce occurrences may be seen in Blast insights, however, the Bounce Reason is not available within Broadcast, but can be provided on request individually.

What Should I Do To Prevent Bounces?

If Bounces are occurring on email servers or domains that your organization has control over, partner with your organization's IT to review recent Bounces to verify email server settings are up to date and that email addresses are still valid.

For email server or domains you do not have control over, we recommend verifying the validity of the email address, then reaching out to the individual from another email address and requesting they remove any blocks that are preventing your emails from being received.

Clearing Bounces

Some Cerkl Instances may have the option to clear a bounce, depending on the type of audience they server.

Occasionally, an email server may experience a temporary outage, or a Subscriber may be added to your Audience and sent a message before their mailbox is set up within your organization. This may result in a Bounce - Simply click the ellipsis menu button next to the email in the Audience > Bounced list to return them to your Subscriber list and retry sending emails to them.
