Broadcast + Slack integration is currently in Beta. Some features are in progress.

Please share any feedback via Chat Support, Email, or by discussing a plan with your account manager.

Premier and Ultimate Organizations have the ability to link Slack workspace to Broadcast, allowing you to share content to public Slack Channels and adding another convenient way to engage with your teams.

For a look at how Broadcast shares Content with Slack, please review this article: The Broadcast + Slack Experience.

To get started go to Settings > Integrations & Plugins > Slack App. Then, follow the steps below to connect your instance.

The steps below will require coordination with your company IT and/or Slack Administrators.

Step 1: Generate Broadcast Slack Key

From within Broadcast, click “Generate my Slack Key” to open a window display of your Slack Key. From here, you can select and copy the Slack Key or click "Copy to Clipboard". This key will be used to authenticate on the Slack side and will not be accessible again - It may help to store the Key in a secure file for future reference.

Once generated, there will be a note showing which Team Member generated the key and the date/time it expires.

This Slack Key is only active 14 days for security.

If it is lost or expires, don't worry, you can generate a new key on this page.

Generating a new key will overwrite your existing key, making it invalid to connect with your Slack Workspace.

Step 2: Login to Slack

The users that will follow the rest of the steps should login to Slack in the web browser currently in use.

If you're not already signed in, when “Connect” is clicked, you will be prompted to login OR there will be an option in the “Workspace” dropdown to add and login into an existing Workspace.

Step 3: Click Connect

Click “Connect” in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Going to the Connect URL will add the “Cerkl Broadcast” App to your Slack Workspace.

The Cerkl Broadcast App is not in the Slack Directory at this time while in Beta. Going through this process is currently the only way to add our App to your Slack Workspace.

Step 4: Allow Permissions

You will be asked to allow Broadcast to have certain permissions inside Slack.

Please make sure to review these permissions at this stage. Some of these permissions include:

What will Cerkl Broadcast be able to view?

  • Content and info about you

    • View information about your identity

  • Content and info about channels & conversations

    • View basic information about public channels in your workspace

  • Content and info about your workspace

    • View people in your workspace

    • View the name, email domain, and icon for workspaces Cerkl Broadcast is connected to

    • View email addresses of people in your workspace

What will Cerkl Broadcast be able to do?

  • Perform actions in channels & conversations

    • Send messages as @cerkl_broadcast#

    • Send messages to channels @cerkl_broadcast# isn't a member of

Note: If you have multiple Slack Workspaces to choose from, you can select which Slack Workspace you are connecting to at this stage from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner.

Step 5: Enter Slack Key

Once allowed, you will be redirected back to Broadcast.

A window will appear asking for the Slack Key copied from the Settings page earlier in Step 1.

If successful, move to step 6.

If the connection fails, you will see a failure page with the following messages about what could have gone wrong:

  • The connection to Slack was interrupted during the request.

  • The oAuth Code from Slack expired before the connection was confirmed.

  • Your Slack Key was no longer valid or it expired before the time of the request.

  • You didn't allow Broadcast to access the proper permissions from Slack.

  • You cannot perform this action since a Slack Workspace is already connected to your Organization.

For support through this process, please contact Chat Support, support Email, or plan to meet with your account manager to discuss options.

Step 6: Confirm

After you successfully enter the Slack Key, confirm the connection.

This page will give you the option to:

  • “Go Back” to the previous page.

  • “Connect” the Workspace with the Organization.

When the connection is made, the data sync between the Slack Workspace and Broadcast will complete and an email will be sent with confirmation on success or failure. If the connection fails, please refer to the steps presented in the email confirmation.

You're Connected! What's Next?

Once connected, you will be brought back to Broadcast and to a page with a detail card for your new connection.

This page will show that Slack is now connected along with the following information:

  • Broadcast Organization name

  • When the Slack Key was generated

  • Slack Workspace name

  • Slack Domain

  • Status

Connections are PAUSED by default. When Paused, sending to Slack cannot be used. If paused at the time Content is scheduled to send in Slack, the send will fail.

Click the drop down to switch to Resume the connection in Settings > Integrations & Plugins > Slack App in order to begin using the Slack integration. The button will turn Green and display as Connected.

If you ever need to, you can return to this page to pause the connection anytime.
