Your subscribers have a lot of information presented to them every day, and it's likely that some messages get lost in the shuffle. Blast retargeting is an effective communication strategy that involves resending targeted emails to subscribers who have already been sent a Blast but have yet to open or engage with the original email.

Retarget a Blast

To retarget a Blast and resend to users who did not engage with the original message, go to Blasts > Sent. On this page, search for the Blast you wish to retarget, then click the Ellipsis menu to select Retarget Blast from the available options.

Once clicked, a side-window will appear where you can view a Blast Preview, verify Details, edit Retargeting fields, and schedule the date and time of your Retarget send.

Blast Preview Header

The Blast Preview Header is where you'll see a thumbnail and brief details of the original Blast. Clicking the eye icon or thumbnail will open a preview of the original Blast. You can use this to ensure you are retargeting the correct Blast and review what it looks like on desktop and mobile.

Retargeting Tab

The Retargeting tab is where the retargeting-specific options are available for reviewing or editing. This is also where you will be able to select your retarget audience and schedule the send date and time.

Before confirming your Retarget send, please review the Details tab.

Sending Info

Blast Name

By default, this field pulls in the name of the original Blast and adds the word “RETARGET” for easy reference. However, the new Blast name can be changed.

Subject Line

By default, this field pulls in the subject line of the original Blast. The new Blast subject line can be changed.

Personalization fields can be used here by clicking the user icon.

Preview Text

This field allows to input an up to 100 character text, that will be shown up in the preview section of the inbox.

It is an optional field and by default it is empty.

It is disabled when uploading an HTML.

Date

Use the calendar picker to select the date that you wish for this retargeted Blast to send. Blasts cannot be retargeted more than 180 days after the original Blast was sent, so the calendar will limit selection to within that timeframe.

Time

Use the hour and minute drop-downs to select the time of day you wish for this retargeted Blast to send. The time zone used is based on your computer's current time zone, and it's denoted below the drop-down fields. You have the option to choose a different time zone.

Projected Audience

In this section you can choose your retargeted Blast’s audience. This is based on those in the original audience who did not perform a specific action. You have the following options:

Opened

Recipients who have not opened the original Blast.

Clicked

Recipients who have not clicked any links in the original Blast.

Opened or Clicked

Recipients who have not opened a Blast or clicked within it.

An Acknowledgment

Recipients who have not confirmed the Acknowledgment in the Blast. If there was no Acknowledgment in the original Blast, this option will be disabled.

Responded to Survey

Recipients who have not submitted a response to the Pulse Survey in the Blast. If there was no Survey in the original Blast, this option will be disabled.

After the above fields are all accounted for, the Retarget Blast button will become available at the bottom of the side-window. This will also be present as an option from the Details tab.

Details Tab

The Details tab is where you can see information about the retargeted Blast you will be sending out, based on the original Blast.

Details for the Blast cannot be changed. Please make sure to review the Details tab before scheduling a Retarget, as there may be things in the original Blast that will be included in the Retarget that you need to be aware of.

Why Can't I Retarget a Blast?

Please Note: Blasts that were sent prior to 9/30/2023 are not eligible for retargeting.

You may see a missing or disabled Retarget Blast ellipsis action. Below are the possible messages/reasonings as to why the option would be disabled:

  • Blasts are only eligible for Retargeting up to 6 months after send.

  • The Blast was already Retargeted.

  • The Blast is a Retargeted Blast.

  • Retarget Blasts are only available for organizations in Live Mode.

  • If the Sender Profile used in the original Blast has been deleted, you will not be able to retarget that Blast. It is not possible to restore the Sender Profile.

In the case where the Retarget Blast option is disabled, there are still steps you can take to resend the Blast. You can always select the Duplicate option from the Blast's Ellipsis menu, then update the audience with a Manual Segment created from a list you've exported from insights.

What Happens to Retargeted Blast Insights?

Blast Metrics for the original Blast and the Retarget are available separately by clicking the name of the Blast in your Blasts > Sent list or in Insights > Blasts > Metrics.

The Specific Blast Metrics pages for both the original Blast and the Retargeted Blast offer an easy method to jump to the Insights of the other under the Blast Name.

We understand that when a Blast Pulse Survey is included in a Blast, it's important to get a full picture. Thus, as a unique exception, we've combined that Insight data. When reviewing the Survey tab from a Blast's Insights, the data you see is from both the original and the Retargeted send.

It is important to mention:

  • If a Subscriber set their privacy level to “Do not personalize my experience,” we don’t collect metrics on them for opens and clicks. For that reason, these Subscribers will always be included in the retarget audience.

  • If a Subscriber set their privacy level to “Do not personalize my experience,” we do collect metrics for the Acknowledgment and Pulse Survey cases. This is because they have a landing page where the Subscriber explicitly submits a chosen response. For that reason, these Subscribers will be included/excluded based on if they responded or not.
